Beyond the Book Maine Workshop at Susan Newbold’s studio

Painting collaboratively in Susan Newbold’s studio in Maine, our work became about personalities and relationships. We began by painting on 10”x10’ strips of watercolor paper in our preferred medium, then we swapped paintings. The artist that began the painting finished. Working this way helped us out of our personal ruts and the sum became more than its parts. Looking at the completed strips we decided that they didn’t work as a whole and needed to be separated into the quiet group and the bold group. Sometimes the quieter group needed a bolder strip to work and vice versa.
